Gary Iannopollo

Welcome to my first DFS content piece for TTE. Let me start by telling you a little about myself. My name is Gary Iannopollo; I go by the handle Gary8700, and you can follow me on Twitter at @Gary8700. I have been playing Daily Fantasy Sports since 2012. I have played with buy-ins ranging from $0.25 to $5300 on a single night. I am very passionate about all sports and DFS and have taken my passion up the leaderboards; I currently rank 384th out of 30,371 in the Tournament Player of the Year rankings and 557th out of 34,433 in Overall Rankings. My goal in teaming up with TTE is to provide DFS content daily for our users to help make you successful in this industry. There is a lot of money to be made, and we want to help you get there!

So today I will be focusing on the NHL slate on Draftkings. It starts at 7:00 PM EST and is an excellent 12 game slate. They have an attractive $20 buy-in tournament with a prize pool of $100,000. For those of you who don’t know, Draftkings is salary cap based. You must construct a team using the provided salary and cannot go over the cap. In NHL your team is built of two centers, three wings, two defensemen, one goalie, and one utility spot which is any position goalie excluded. I will go through each position and give you a couple of guys I like and the reasons I like that player. I will also throw in some value plays for the positions to help keep you under the cap.

Ryan Getzlaf – Anh – $6900
The Center I’m going to be focusing around tonight is Ryan Getzlaf. He has come out of the gate scorching this year. In three games so far he has taken 17 shots on goal and has amassed 4 points, 1 Goal, and 3 Assist. Tonight, he travels to NJ to take on a weak Devils team who ranks 27th defensively against the center position. Furthermore, in two games this season the Devils have given up five goals. Count me in on Getzlaf!
Martin Hanzal – Ari – $4400
A cheap center I will be looking at tonight Is Martin Hanzal for the Arizona Coyotes. We have only a small sample size on Hanzal so far this year as Arizona is the only team that has played just one game. In that one game, Hanzal skated the top line and had over 20 mins of time on ice (TOI). He took 7 shots on goal and had 2 points, one goal, and one assist. Tonight, he gets to play Ottawa who thru 3 games this year have given up a whopping 12 goals. Yes, 12 that’s not a typo! For $4400 it’s going to be hard for me not to take Hanzal.
Others to consider:
Connor McDavid – Edm – $8500
Rick O’Reilly – Buf – $6200
Eric Staal – Min – $4900

Alex Ovechkin – Wash – $8400
Ovechkin hasn’t done much yet to start the season, so this pick comes with a little risk. Particularly with the price tag he carries. But Ovechkin, the reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner is one of if not the best player in the league. Vegas currently has Washington as heavy favorites at home and slated to be one of the top scoring teams tonight. If you got the salary to spend id take a shot on Ovechkin and he may also be a lower percent owned
Max Domi – Ari -$4700
So, I’m going to stick with the trend of picking on Ottawa tonight. I’m very likely to pair Domi with Hanzal as they both skate the top line and top power play together. With Domi, you’re getting a cheap winger who gets to play against hapless Ottawa tonight. Domi in his one game this season had over 20 mins of TOI and got two shots on goal and an assist to go with it. He is a nice source of salary relief.
Others to consider:
Jordan Eberle – Edm – $6900
Kyle Okposo – Buf – $6100
Lee Stempniak – Car – $4600
Josh Bailey -NYI- $3500

Brent Burns – SJ – $7900
Yes, this is a lot to spend on a defender, but Burns is very involved in the offense of this team and skates and leads the top power play unit for the Sharks. In three games this season Burns has taken 17 shots on goal and has managed six points, 3 goals, and 3 assists. So yes, Burns is a defenseman but as you can see is heavily involved on the offensive side for this team. If I have the salary, I’m going to go Burns tonight in my lineups.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson – Ari – $6100
Back to the well with this pick, Ekman plays for Arizona and going against Ottawa tonight, He played over 30 minutes in the first game this season and is likely to continue logging those types of minutes. Ekman also skates the top Power play unit with Hanzal and Domi. In his only game this season he took 2 shots on goal and did record an assist. Not bad for a defenseman with a nice matchup tonight.
Others to consider:
Erik Karlsson – Ott – $8100
P.K. Subban – Nsh – $6200
Brent SeaBrook – Chi – $5400
Nick Leddy – NYI – $4500

Brandon Holtby – Wash – $8300 **Holtby getting night off Philip Grubauer (salary relief)
Holtby is my top overall goalie for the slate tonight. I rely on Vegas lines and spreads for a lot of my first look at games and Vegas has him as a huge home favorite. The only thing that does worry me is Colorado has put up a decent number of goals to start the season. But I believe on the second game of back to back for Colorado on the East coast that they may be a little run down. Hence the low goal total Vegas has provided for them tonight.
John Gibson – Anh – $7700
Gibson hasn’t been great to start this season, but he does go against the Devils tonight. The Devils have managed only to put together 3 goals in the first two games of this season. I like Gibson because he should also get some decent offensive backing in this one from his team. Vegas also have him as a small favorite in this road matchup.
Others to consider:
Ben Bishop – TB – $8400
Devan Dubnyk – Min – $7500
